brake light warning

Postby woppydop » Thu May 13, 2010 1:00 pm

Hi all

Here's my problem.

I've recently changed the brake pads on my 94 Mu, when I started it back up the brake light warning was on in the dash.
While driving this will flicker on and off. The brakes etc work out fine I just can't figure out why the light on the dash keeps flickering on and off. I gather it might have something to do with the handbrake but I've had the console out and everything seems to check out ok there.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Try pushing on the handbrake. If this stops it put a few drops of oil on the slideing mechanism under the dash. Mines done this a couple of times

These 2 things are most likely but Ive just thought of a third if you are unlucky. Some late model Mus have a wire on each calliper to detect when the pads are worn out If your new pads didnt have a connection for the wire if you had this settup they will be floating in the breeze and each time they touch metal the light comes on

I've discovered the problem. When changing the pads we took out some of the brake fluid and inadvertantly bumped one of the vacuum hoses. This would seat and unseat with the vibration of the engine.
Put on a new bit of hose and all is well.
Still, should someone else have this problem, this post will be helpfull.

Good finding
Ive dislodged that hose before as well but not while working on the brakes This also resulted in hopeless brakes which is why I didnt consider it in your case
