Rev counter help

Postby bazza2541 » Mon Sep 06, 2010 1:17 am

Hi all,
I have transferred a 4jb1 engine from a 1995 Opel Frontera into my 2004 Isuzu Trooper shell. I have it all hooked up and running apart from the rev counter, I see on other threads that the rev counter wiring should be on a plug on the engine side of the pump. Except that I have neither plug nor wires on my pump.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem, went on line a got a rev counter from ebay, the sending unit attaches to the alternator, their made for diesels.

Will the sender mate to the existing guage or will I need to go aftermarket?
And many thanks.

You need a diesel rev counter The petrol takes a pulse from the dizi which is very different to the signal out of the fuel pump.
Aftermarket use a different set up again
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

the rev counter that I got off ebay came as one unit, rev counter and sending unit, like Geeves said your petrol rev counter won't work on diesels

My Trooper was a diesel to start with. I have the wire going to the dashboard/clocks, I just have nothing to connect it to.
Would I be right in saying that if there was no rev counter wire on the pump there has to be one on the altenator?
Again many thanks for your help and patience

No I don't think there is a sending unit on your altenator as one only goes there for aftermarket rev counters.
