brake + headlight + indicator = audible alarm

Postby ezytiger83 » Fri Sep 10, 2010 11:56 pm

just recently i've had some issues with the MU's electrics. if i flick the indicators while braking, all blinkers come on constant, but weak and the car beeps at me. if i drive at night i can have headlights no worries, but if i brake or indicate, the same thing happens. i've tried everything in the driveway and i can indicate or have the headlights on their own, but brakes on their own sets it off again. all the globes work, battery indicator says good, and she starts first time every time. i've stared at it a bit and checked every earth i can find...anyone got any ideas? i've heard talk of a voltage regulator, does the MU have one and if so, what's it look like? it's going to the mechanics on wednesday anyway, so if i don't solve it by then i'll see if they can check the electrics while it's there.

Ive heard of a couple of Mus with damaged wiring due to unprofessional alterations Yours could be no 3 on that list.
It will be easy to fix once you find it which is the trick

Does it have a tow bar & is it a auto ?
If it is i would be checking the trailer wiring
I think some auto's have a reverse alarm which might be getting a signal from brake light

Is it the same beep as when the keys are in and the door is open?

cheers for all help, guys.

i think it's the beep that the auto used to make in reverse, but that stopped working ages ago. i had a look at the trailer plug, all the wires at the rear of the fuel tank are good and i shook some sand out of the connectors then took off the tail lights(after market lenses, these ones are the clear circular type). it looks like the plastic around the globe sockets for the brake lights are melted and i'll look at swapping them with my spare MU tomorrow. the globes work but the holder doesn't screw into the lense as tight as the reverse and blinkers. i don't feel like i really did anything, but the problem has stopped regardless...
