flickring dash lights

Postby benny » Wed Jan 19, 2011 3:34 pm

95 bighorn 3.1 a few days ago the dash lights started flickering on and off, resulting in a flat battery today. I have charged the battery and the alt belt was loose so I tightened it. Still not charging battery and flickering lights still happening anyone got any ideas that wont cost me a new alternator.

when dash lights are flicking on/off are the parking lights too?? if so it could be a dodgy park light switch/button. not sure where to start on a bighorn... im sure geeves will fill you in there.

Check your charge relay it could be on its way out so its flicking on and off.

Charge relay and alternator are possible but check your battery leads are tight first. And the other ends of those cables

oops... just re-read the OP. i think he means the dancing dash 'indicator' lights (charge fuel etc) if so then i guess it would make thel lights dance if the charging system was crook probably the relay if they're flashing.

i was thinking of the parking light system dancing too which would point to a faulty switch.

my bad.

Yeah not great news on the flickering lights front, have investiged further and a big oil leak around seal to alterator has shagged it completely filling it with oil. Starting to think this vehicle is jinxed as it has cost me 6k in the last 12 mths. Things to look out for. Power steering, transmission, turbo, alternator, starter motor and most other things apart from the body. If you can help it dont buy this model.
