There has been alot of converstation about this on the forum, unless it is a full lamp replacement it is illegal in NZ due to the fact that the HID bulbs do not have the cut-off for low beam and the reflector is not designed to for HID as the bulb is a different shape or the filament is a different distance from the reflector. This may not be the case in Aus but they check the headlights for our Warrant of Fitness.s

7x5 Headlights are cheap enough. Get a set and open them up. You just need to add a polyellipsoidal reflector our of a projector headlight to make them legal. It provides the cut off to prevent blinding other drivers.

I just bought a hid conversion kit 55w 6000k for my IPF driving lights i will do them first and do the head lights later if im happy with this kit.
I have sealed beams at the moment but will get a set of 7" x 5" open lights and a hid kit for them to install if i go ahead with it.

You can buy off the shelf hid driving lights and as there is only a few lens/reflector types
conversion kits should be easy especially for the good brands
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

I have an HID kit in my Mu Iam running Hi/Low Hid's and in the 5000K spectrum of light, which is mostly white.
Installing them is simple as, the only thing is I had to replace the lens in front as I had sealed units.

Cheers

Its not the lenses that are the problem when changing over its the refectors.
The standard haleogen bulb reflectors throw the hid light in wrong directions and end up blinding on comming traffic.

Just make sure you get everything you need in the kits.

IPF 900's are dam good spotties! Looking foward to hearing your results.

hey guys i bought a set to install into the spotties on the mu (dunno what brand spotties, prob cheap crap as they were already on it).

the hid bulbs have a sort of a steel shield on them what way does this need to be orientated??

also

do i need to change the reflector in the spotlights and can i just put the hid's in the spotlight in exactly the same manner as the halogen globes??

I would think you could put them straight in as the spots are not meant to be used when there is on coming traffic. but then again I am guessing

They can only fit in 1 way square notch 1 side half moon on the other side if they are the same as mine H4 globes. You also need to wire it up to high beam wire as well.
