Only wire is the one to the fuel cutoff solinoid on the fuel pump plus an earth for the engine to run but without the several wires to the ecu for the auto it will go into a limp home state and will not change gear correctly.
Not sure I understand the reason for the question. I would be worrying more about waterproofing the auto and diffs than the wireing but Mus cant swim. I have seen a picture of one belonging to an x member that tried. All that was visible was a dinner plate sized piece of the roof. Interestingly the passenger window was open but the driver was out first

Ive had a bow wave break onto the windscreen enough to know that the heater vents do dump icy water on your feet and ive been stuck in a door handle deep puddle and only issue was some mud on a door frame stopped it sealing. Had to replace the switch I mounted on the seat frame for the compressor and the first aid kit under the seat and the carpet never went back in afterwards.

If your engine isnt running does it turn over? Hydrolock possibly?
