Help

Postby BarryHarwood » Mon Oct 10, 2011 7:59 am

I have a 4JG2 that I believe the alternator regulator has failed on.
I have tried to find a new regulator and also a secondhand alternator in Dunedin without any luck (other than paying $300 - $500)
Does anyone have any suggestions for locating either of these.

The alternator is a Hitachi 897134 8660 / LR180-501C

Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

Barry.

What are the symptoms that lead you to believe your regulator has failed?

Firstly the battery, 4wd and fuel/water lights came on and the voltage went up to 16v on the dash meter.
The voltage would increase and decrease with revs.

then two days after this, the voltmeter dropped to around 11v and dropped each time I started the engine until I couldn't start it any more.

16v will of blown the charge relay as well. Its the blue one in the fuse box. Change this and your second hand alternator may well work
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

It also might be a brown relay in your year of Wizard.

Yes thanks, found it as a brown relay, and it's buggered.

Do these symptoms sound like a regulator problem to you guys?

cheers
