Instrument cluster removal

Postby Demonic » Sat Aug 01, 2009 8:05 pm

How does one remove the instrument cluster? I removed the 2 screws on either side but the bugger still wont come out. Am i missing a screw? - on the cluster that is!
Cheers,
Andrew

There is 2 screws under the cluster as well. Then you have to release the speedo cable.
Its a tight fit to get round the back but it can be done. Then you just have to unclip the two wire connectors and it should come out.

And how does one get to the screws on the underside? is it a matter of removing some of the covers below the steering wheel?
Cheers,
Andrew

Yes you need to remove the steering column covers, and there are two screws either side of the column going up into the pannel.

Also I have found that if you lift the sides of the outside cover that is over the instruments just force it out (no harm done but it wont come all the way off just lift the edges) it makes it much easier to remove the speedo cable as you can fit a normal sized hand in there.

He He that only works if the hidden odometer for the cambelt light is still fitted inside the cluster. I found that out trying to get an electrical pulse of the speedo for my Heads Up Display. Some nice person had removed the whole bloody thing. Hence can't get a pulse so had to revert to a digital speedo and senser on drive shaft.

No worries about turning off cambelt light though. lol.

I must be the only one that uses Blu-Tack over the offending lights. Pity they don't make Black-tack.
