Trailer Wiring

Postby dasnoboarder » Sat Aug 29, 2009 6:57 pm

Hey guys,

How do you wire up a trailer wiring connector to a MU?

I saw a video install of an Isuzu Rodeo in the U.S. it had a factory prewired socket up above the fuel tank which they pulled down and tapped into.

Does the MU have one of these or do you have to get the whole kit and tap into each wire?

Cheers,
Andy

There is a similar plug under the bighorn but I found it after t ing into the loom behind the lights. Wouldnt be hard to work out with a meter
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

There is a wiring loom that runs behind/above the rear cross member that has all the needed wires in it. I just tapped into it. There is a plug there too that i un-plugged and used a multi meter to find out which wire was which.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

Maybe this is the loom for the rear lights? Cheers :D .

I probably won't get it all wired up by the time I need to use a trailer though...

Is it a legal requirement in NZ to have the wiring? Would driving in daylight and using hand signals be acceptable?

Not sure about that, I have towed a trailer a few times with out the lights working but didn't get court. As long as people can see the tail lights on the mu it wouldn't be soo bad???

In NZ you can tow a trailer without lights during the day as long as your vehicle lights are visable. Not recommending this though
