Glow plug fuse

Postby Demonic » Fri Oct 02, 2009 3:15 pm

Been wondering why my truck has been idling like a b**ch in the mornings, went to see a mechanic mate and he noted that the 60amp fuse had blown - i had noticed the the click from the plug realy wasnt happeneing. Anyway, the question is what would/could cause the fuse to blow?.
Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Andrew, Check the glow plug lead to see if it is rubbing on anything and all connections to see if they are all clean and tight as thay can heat up and blow the fuse.
Thanks

also did the replacement fuse blow. Sometimes they go through old age
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

I have a problem --50 amp fuse of the glow circuit has blown (Isuzu 3.1 4JG2)
Have blown the replacement fuse too
Checked for poor contact or shorts at the plugs
Visually checked plugs and they look 100% -- i.e. not disformed

Suspect the problem is at the relay switches.

Would a defective relay switch cause the fuse to blow?
How does one test whether a relay switch comes into the on position?
I have the manual but I am not familiar with the tech stuff.

You can test relays with multimeters but you need to know which leg does what and supply some voltage etc, I tested mine by resting a finger on top while someone activated whatever was supposed to turn it on, ie headlight relay i stood beside the truck while someone else turned the switch and I could feel the CLICK as the relay switched over. Fixed my dash and park lights this way once I had found the right relay ... drivers side kick panel in case anyone is looking ... now to fix the reversing lights (only work when engine/gearbox is warm)

I have resolved my problem:
One glow plug was blown and was shorting the system

BTW The 50A fuses are easily had from scrapyards -- the same items are used by Toyotas great and small.
I came home with an armful for free.
