89Bighorn Windscreen motor

Postby New2Isuzu » Mon May 11, 2009 3:46 pm

Hey,

The front windscreen wipers began to intermittently refuse to work...now they won't go at all!

I've taken the motor off, and it all runs freely I suspect the motor has blown, but any other suggestions would be most appreciated...

Oh and pray it doesn't rain till Thursday..........

By works freely when the motor is off I mean you can pull them up and down.... But when the moter is bolted back on you can't budge them...so would need to remove the motor fully for the string thing to work!!

Grrrrrr

OK you won't be able to move the motor by hand because they are geared down so much.

I'd be putting a multimeter on the plug to see if you have any power coming through, then work back from there. If it has power it may be the motor, if not check the switches for power...

Have you replaced the fuse if not that would be the first place I would start
Sometimes they look ok but are dead
Test the wiper motor like this

If the motor works you have a fault somewhere else

Try running a small jumper lead directly to the motor terminal. (more than one terminal might be live) This should prove whether its the motor or switch. My bighorn on the same vintage has had a similar problem with the intermittent wipe for some time. In my case I know its the switch as fiddling it makes it work

Heading up to pick-a-part to grab a new motor for it....shouldn't be too hard to fit even for me lol!

Anyone know if the fresh wiper motor has to come off the exact model, or is there anyother vehicle that has the same motor?? like the alternator could come from a mu etc...

If you can stick with the same one. Motor is most likely the same but the mechanism will be different
