Replace alternator

Postby vrox1988 » Wed Feb 24, 2016 6:09 am

Hey guys

I'm pretty new here :) I already found heaps of help here and great DIY tips. Thanks for that.

Now my alternator in my 1996 Isuzu MU Wizard 3.1 failed yesterday. I've got the replacement but it is sitting in a ..... of a spot if you know i mean lol. :D
I'm semi mechanical minded. Any tips or tricks what's the quickest and best way to get to it?
I used the search engine but couldn't find anything.

Much appreciated

Thanks

It is covered elswhere here and its not a nice job
2 ways you can do it
The way described in the book and the way I always use
Remove battery. Unbolt the air con from the block and lift on to battery tray Do not touch the hoses. Unhook the vacumm line and oil feedsand wireing from alternator Loosen and remove belts. Unbolt alternator remove. Refit in reverse
The alternate way favoured by an x isuzu mechanic who is a regular here.
Remove battery Remove radiator. Remove alternator connections remove belts remove alternator Refit in reverse
Ive not used this method
Both methods require reaching in through the inner guard and from underneath. Expect to take two hours the first time but next time will be easier
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Hey Geeves

Thanks.
Uffff sounds like a mission. As much I love this truck mister Isuzu didn't think that these things need changing from time to time (same with oil filter, took me 3 times and a visit here before I figured it out haha)
I'll let you know how it went.

Cheers
