Its been so long since Ive touched a coil I cant remember if they earth through the dizzi or through the case. Confirm this before trying the below suggestion. If it earths through the case you dont need the earth lead but dont know which of the 2 terminals to conect the battery to.
Get a 2 meter long pieces of insulted wire and strip the ends and leave this in the truck. Next time it does it remove both leads on the coil and connect one end of one wire to the coil. The other end of this wire to earth. Then hook the other wire to the other coil terminal and touch the other end on the battery. When you remove the lead from the battery you should get a spark on the ht lead. This proves the coil to be ok
Also have a look at your plugs. If the center electrode has minor erosion this is correct. If its severely pitted the capacitor has gone If there is erosion on the outer electrode instead of the center swap the 2 leads over on the coil
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
