Temp and fuel gauge not working 1990 trooper Ls

Postby WOOLEY » Sat May 06, 2017 7:45 pm

I need to to know where the gauge cluster is grounded to.. The oil gauge works but temp and fuel gauge just quit working yesterday...This morning I get in it and still not working... Pushed the cigarette lighter in and it started working again... Got to where I was going.. Shut it off and started it right back up and not working again tried the lighter again and nothing???? Has anyone else had this problem?

I dont know how different your troopers are to ours. Yours has the chevy engine etc. Generally looking under the dash with a torch should find the earthing points. A multieter should find the issue quite quickly

Hi Guys
I just noticed today my temperature gauge isn't working..
Does it hook directly onto a sensor?
I'm just wondering if I've unplugged something and forgotten to plug it back in..
Also my rev counter has been intermittent for a while now..
Could be related? Electrical issue?

I'll have a look behind there next weekend when I've got a bit of light

Is there any common problems?
Thanks in advance

Damo

All normal issues, fuel gauge runs off temp gauge, so tap temp gauge and fuel gauge will start working, also rev counter same thing tap it, the needle seems to stick in cold weather, just check coolant sensor wire, looking at engine its the 1 on the left hand side under the thermostat, and behind the a/c pump

temp guage is in the housing not the cap of the thermostat assembly

That looks like the wire from memory, look behind the earth wire bolted to the top of ac compressor and you should see the sensor
