Immobiliser and Dash removal

Postby Akiko » Sun Dec 20, 2009 8:07 pm

Hello all
A while back I got another MU '92.It had an aftermarket immobiliser installed, which was failing. It's happened, it failed! I have been working on returning the old girl to original wiring, but this immobiliser is like nothing I have seen before. It is connected to everything. I have the rodeo 4jb1 wiring diagram and have been following that, but if anybody else has some useful info, that would be really appreciated. The only experience I have had with immobilisers is one that interrupts the ign position, on the way to the starter. Simple in and out control box. This one aint :x

Ask number two, any info on the pressure points/ clip points to get the temp control panel/ bezzel out?? I don't want to mark up the plastic edges too much.
Cheers Aki

sounds more like a complete security system rather than just an immobiliser. Some of them are quite complicated
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

After pulling the four control knobs of (can usually just do it with your fingers) the panel just comes out fairly easily from memory. I've had mine off recently to replace a bulb in there.

Do you remember where you put the pressure on the face of the cover? and the position of the clips?

Sorry mate, can't remember for sure. I think I just put a small screwdriver in one of the slots that the levers come out of and pulled out with the screwdriver angled over a bit. I don't remember it being a big problem. Are you having trouble getting this panel off?

Thanks mate. It seems that the panel in mine had been removed with force once before(could be from another wiring job?). It has bee helped to stay with a shot of 'not so'- super glue.

Is there any markings on the control box you found for the immobaliser?? As geeves said it sounds more lyke a full alarm system in there. If you can find any details then we might be able to get some info on it and try to sort the beastie out.

Muz
There where no markings on the box, except "made in Taiwan". That said, I got my Christmas wish early and on the 23rd I found the final interruption in the wiring circuit. Hey presto she is running freely again. Spurred on, reconnected the power windows lights etc. It was like removing an alien from its host. My job for the holiday tomorrow, is to put the whole dash back.

Turn turn, thanks again mate for your pics!
