1997 Bighorn Injector Pump Swap Tachometer

Postby hazzagibs » Mon Sep 03, 2018 10:23 am

Hi All,

I have a 1997 4JG2 EFI Bighorn. The EFI Injector Pump was on its way out and i swapped it for a refurbished mechanical pump (drives 1000x smoother now).

I am having difficulty getting the tachometer to work with the new pump. I purchased a Dakota Digital DSL-1 to read the sensor on the mechanical pump, I've got the unit going and reading speed from the new pump, however I have tried various output configurations with the grey 3-pin plug in the loom for the original sensor and can't get anything to happen on the dash.

Has anyone done something similar with an EFI bighorn and gotten the tach to work?

Cheers.

try the star point in the alternator, sometimes its marked N or S or you can pick up a tapping on the alternator rectifier

Thanks Luna, i don't need to go off the alternator as the DSL-1 is already reading a signal off the pump. I'm just not sure how to get the output from that reading on the stock tachometer.

The gray socket for the original sensor is directly connected to the ECU. ECU converts signal from NP sensor and sends to tachometer through another wire connection. (pink stripe black wire if I am not mistaken). Use this wire to turn on the tachometer because it connects directly to the meter in the dash
