Glow plugs are not designed to be on for long periods so you could burn out the glow plugs if you drive it like this.Shouldnt be other damage. A meter would be needed to see if they are staying on or just the light. For piece of mind you can remove the wires from the glow plugs and wrap in insulation tape. Your engine doesnt need them except in winter weather (ie yesterday isnt it meant to be summer)
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
