Body Mount movement

Postby slightlydodgy » Fri Apr 23, 2010 6:40 pm

My truck has always had (what seems to me) alot of movement on the body mounts -seen by watching the solid mount tray move in relation to the cab. I put in a 50mm lift almost 2 years ago and at the suggestion of a local 4x4 man shortened the crush tubes in the rubber mounts by 5mm. Movement stayed the same. However today I pushed down on the front guard to check the shocks and happened to see the front body mount move vertically. More testing showed no sideways movement, cant twist the rubbers and no slack the bolts cant be done up any more but I can get about 5mm up and down movement by rocking the body work. Normal????. Going down the road the headboard seems to bounce all over the place Please set my mind at ease

bout the same as when I bought it 3 years ago. I understood that they didnt usually wear out, but the more I think about it they are the only thing it could be, most of the other original bushes etc are had it after 20 years

a shure way to stop the mount moveing is to replace with a polly bush like noltech or something along thoes lines. im putting my money on old body mounts causeing the exsesive movement.

Rear 4 look in resonable nick and are definetly done up tight as they have a slight bulge in them. I have a suspicion the the front ones might have the washer under instead of over the top rubber (everything was done as i found it when I did the lift) in which case the crush tubes would be wearing into the spacers. The tray also looks like the front mounting points are rusting out and they are only made of folded panel steel. I see a flat deck or another slightlydodgy idea in the near future to fix this part

Dragging up an old topic. Finally got around to making a new crossmember for the tray which has stopped the tray moving. was asking local engineer/dairy plant man for some high tensile bolts to replace existing ones when I put new body mount rubbers in and he asked was high tesile pre threaded rod allowed as would solve the problem of odd sized bolts. Thought that this might be relevant for others doing body lifts. Any thoughts would be appreciated

Only reasons I can see for not useing it are the odd thread isuzu uses. (extra fine) and the fact that there is 2 nuts that can come undone. Also its more obvious to the wof man

The rodeo doesnt have any bolts that go into body work - they are all a long bolt and a nut (my current ones are unf not metric) i was thinking of using 2 nuts (as lock nuts) on the top (in the floor pan and nylocks on the bottom
