Clutch Replacement

Postby tphill12 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 6:04 pm

Gday all, Just wondering if anyone has replaced a clutch or had a shop do it, I am looking at buying a MU and the clutch only engages 1/2 inch of top of travel!!

Any ideas ????

Before my origonal clutch died, the pedal came up quite a way before it engaged.

It started slipping going up hill and with load on the wheels, like in sand.

Got it replaced with an Exedy unit, and now the clutch starts to engage as soon as the pedal starts lifting off the firewall.

No worries, by 'came up quite a way' I mean the pedal was almost completly up, just the last 50mm or so would engage it.

Could have been needing more fluid or adjustment, but that was my experience :)

Theres nothing particularly difficult with the Isuzu clutch but the gearbox is very heavy. You do need a jack with a gearbox adapter to lift it. I had my clutch done by a garage and the total bill was less than the labour part of the bill for my Toyota Carib
Any decent garage should be able to do it in 3 to 4 hours
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
