Clutch replacement

Postby Isuzumu4x4 » Tue May 11, 2010 2:26 pm

Hey guys, just got our buggered gearbox out to replace it, and found that the clutch had been annihilated. The splines down the middle of the clutch plate had been torn out... so we got another one from the wrecker for $50, But when i took out the clutch i didnt pay attention to what way the fatter side faced. Can someone please tell me whether is should be facing the Gbox or the Flywheel? thanks.

It can only fit one way. The springs etc will stop it going the other way.

Looks like Ive put you wrong sorry
Fat side towards the gearbox according to the book. If you hold the plate in place by hand and try and turn it it will probably bind on the bolts if fitted the wrong way

Since I have no box in my mu atm and a cracked flywheel that needs replacing. I dived under there last night to look at this very thing. I can put my clutchplate in either way and there is clearance to spin it. This can't be a good thing????

I think that it goes in with the "fat side" towards the gearbox.

Yea i also noticed it can go in both ways, but i put in with fat side facing towards Gbox, so hopefully it works =/

went to connect slave cylinder back up today and its leaking clutch fluid around the bolt or valve that connects to the slave cylinder.

Just wondering if this is an easy fix? or i need a new slave cylinder?

I tried putting thread tape around the bolt and top of the valve so it wouldnt leak, but then the fluid wouldnt even go through the lines.

There should be copper washers either side of the bolt. You might have to replace them or soften them

As long as they fit the bolt. Repco should have them
