what gearbox

Postby johangrbler » Sun May 30, 2010 5:49 pm

hi all
we have a trooper 1 that had what we thought was the 250 n/a diesel on a 4speed manual gearbox. the engin packed up and we replaced it with a c223t keeping the gearbox. now at about 80kph in 4th it seems to over rev, almost as if a 5th gear is needed, question now is what 4wd gearbox is needed for this engine. also the c223 is an import into sa. :ugeek:

Your old engine should of been a C223. Your new engine is just the turbo version of the same engine. I would expect this engine to be doing 3500 at 100kph with a 4 speed box. There is a 5 speed box for the C223. It has a MSG designation. Try and get one from the same place as the engine.

tnx geeves, i'm not sure if the n/a engine was the original, we think it may have been a 250 as those are easy to come by here. pitty its gone, anyway we tried getting a gearbox from the same place but they asked us what we wanted and we couldn't answer them, but we'll try looking for a msg version, how do we id the gearbox we have?

If you can hunt down a gearbox from a 86 to 87 bighorn you should be fine. I think they are both designated MSG

ok we can't find a gearbox, is there not some 250/280 gearbox that would fit the c223?
