help with MU body lift

Postby BrokenMu » Fri Oct 01, 2010 3:05 pm

I'll be tackling the body lift this weekend.

Just need to clarify a few things first.

• Seatbelt retention bars removed and lengthened

Can anyone elaborate on that?

• Loosen steering shaft from firewall to steering box & steering wheel

does this mean the two bolts that are on the firewall on the inside of the cabin as well as the main steering wheel nut?

• Gear levers will foul, rubber boot creates issues, need to bend/cut & weld

does anyone have any photos or in depth explanations as to where/how these need to be cut or bent?

Thanking you in advance for any help

Kind regards
Michael

its all fairly easy to do just check stuff isnt stretching to much when you lift it,
one of my fuel lines from the water seperator was close to coming off but in the end it was ok.
i cant remember what we did with the seat belt bars but we didnt weld anything whilst we did it
gear levers you will understand when you do it not that hard at all just make sure you get it right
before you do it we stuffed up on mine and i still cant get low range reverse but il be fixing that this weekend
cheers, Josh

If you space your gearbox up 19mm the gearstick are fine ;)
Just undo the bolt on the flex coupling on the steering box and slide it off
Undo the seatbelt retention bars
Then lift the body
It should all bolt back together then

Here are some pix of what you need to unbolt and the gearbox spacer

I'm guessing that spacing the gear box up will result in a bit of drive shaft vibration?
Would spacing it up be as simple as using washers, or do I need to make some plates up?

When I asked about the seat belt retention bars, it's because I have no idea what or where they are?

I have no vibration but my springs are shagged
spring wedges should fix vibration issues

Do the seat belt retention bars need to be lengthened in a UBS55 MU? if so, how do you do this?

I can't remember. If you do just make new tabs and weld on the rods

Ok, so already having a 2" suspension lift, how much drive shaft vibration would I be looking at if I were to just put a 19mm raiser plate under the gear box?

All done.

Bending the gear sticks just couldn't get them to sit right. Had to space the gear box up. I used two mounting spacers from the torque tube mount of a Gemini :) hoarding is good. No drive shaft vibration either, but I think I'll have to check my uni's more often.

Had to weld some extended plates onto the seat belt retention bars and re-drill them.

The supplier on trademe doesn't give you the correct bolts for the rear four mounts either, they were the wrong thread.

All in all, there was a bit of headaches involved and there's more to come considering the gap between the grille and bumper, but I had fun :D

Will post pics in members rigs post soon.

Cheers for the help guys
