Can Brakes be improved?

Postby slightlydodgy » Mon Jul 06, 2009 5:58 pm

Its coming to the time of the year when I will be asked to tow the stock trailer- about 2 1/2 ton unbraked with a moving load :( I have standard disk front and drum rear both with new shoes/pads and adjusted by the garage. I was wondering if there was an easy way to improve performance ie vented disks other calipers etc

The ways you have mentioned are the ways to do it that I know of, doing it to a mu might not be so easy though!!!. I use the heavy duty bendix 4WD pads and they seem to hang on really well, I've had about 3 ton on behind, and they handled it fine.
Oh how i miss my mu, the lux is just not the same :(

Front you could fit discks from a 3.1 mu and callipers but you may find the 15 inch rims no longer fit.
Rear not so easy.
As long as your brakes are in good condition and you use high quality pads you should be ok.
Use the gears to control speed as much as possible
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
