Will 4JB1T engine and gearbox from 1991 Mu fit a 2001 Jack?

Postby John51Balcolyn » Wed Apr 18, 2012 8:58 pm

My 2001 Jackaroo has died with the usual oil well in the sump and won't start now. While it was still actually starting the clutch quit - will not drive. I am looking at a 4JB1T to replace the dreadful 4JX1T and and am offered a complete 1991 Mu.
Does anyone know if I can instal the engine/gearbox in place of the originals without a lot of modification?

As far as Im aware it should bolt up but there will be less hassel if you change engine/ gearbox as one. Are they both manual?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Yes they are both manuals, but the Mu gearbox has done more work and seems to have some noises - ? new races needed. So would the "hassels" you mention outweigh the advantage of using the Jackaroo's younger gearbox?
Please also comment on my question regarding clutch slaves.

Mine was a lemon too. I did the coversion from 4JX1 to 4JB1 last year and documented it. Let me know if you'd like a copy.
I successfully kept my Jackaroo box. It had less wear than the MU box that came with the 4JB1, same as your case.

hi every one I have just finished my 4jbit conversion on my 2001 manual jack I must say all went well and thanks to jackdriver and others ,it was an easy conversion . every things works apart from the tacho as I have not tackle it yet my 4jb1 injector pump has a two tacho senses wires so I may be able to connect later , as I am just happy all is running well I also have a very good oil pressure and the 4jb1 starts easily without the warmer system connected to the pump , I just wanted to share this experience with others whom may be interested in the conversion , thanks judex

In this process atm. 92 jack about to get a 4jbt1 from a 94 rodeo.Had a thirsty v6 in the jack. Must be a lot of good jacks around with blown motors that would be ripe for this transplant !
