Whirring Noise

Postby 98Rodeo » Mon Sep 21, 2009 8:43 pm

Hi All,
After a recent water crossing i started to get a low pitched oscillating whirring noise from somewhere.
Is a bit hard to tell where as i have to be doing about 40 to hear it.
Have checked the wheel bearings and changed the diff oil.
Thinking about changing the transmission and transfer oils this week and greasing the uni joints
Anything else I should check?

Thanks

Lift each front wheel and spin.
There is also a small bearing in the back of the hub
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Is there an easy way to get to this bearing Geeves? or is it a matter of taking the hub apart?

Hub assembly has to come off as its accessed from the back.
well under 2 hours work unless you cant separate the ball joints
