Its fixed
Also if anyone else has this there is an easy way.
I was all set to drill a hole in the outer casing of the column when I noticed that one of the screw holes that mount the cowling around the shaft was in the shaft. A quck check showed it went all the way through so got the can of trusty penetrating oil with the long tube attached.Poked it in the hole and squirted.Problem gone.
If anyone else has this then the bottom screw in the center of the cowling can be removed on its own and the tube inserted without any other dismantaling Not the 6 or 8 hours Ive spent on this
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
