Front and Rear Diff Oils

Postby Demonic » Tue Oct 06, 2009 11:26 am

What do people use in there front and rear diffs? The penzoil book I looked at when I was at my mates workshop says it should be 85w-140.
Cheers,
Andrew

In the book you have a choice of 80/90 or 80/140 so that will be fine. Remember if you have an lsd to use lsd oil

Just on the subject of LSD oils, do you still need to put in the additive after you have put the oil in?

Two ways with lsd. In one the additive needs to be added separately to standard diff oil but the more common way is to buy lsd oil with the additive already in the oil. If it chatters you can add more additive

What about if you have lockers (manual or air) do you use standard diff oil?

Unless the locker maker says otherwise I see no reason to change

85w140 seems far to thick for a car diff in NZ

according to my book the lesser 90 grade is good to 30C. It may not be that hot very often in Wellington but it does get hotter in other parts of the country ie where you live.
You should get away with 85w90 but 85w140 adds piece of mind

I went with 80-90 in the front and rear, oil was quite clean but changed it anyway (since it was a freebie)
