Isuzu Parts Compatibility / Interchangeability / Swap over

Postby gomulletgo » Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:18 pm

Hi Guys,

I've searched, couldn't find what I'z looking for. There are threads "will this swap on to this" etc. example: http://www.clubisuzu.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=519

Perhaps we should create a FAQ master thread that has all the answers in it? So members can quickly see what it is possible to swap between vehicles.

For example I want to know if the lower wishbone / A arm will swap over from a First Gen Isuzu Bighorn appx 2.3 diesel to a 4wd Second Gen Isuzu (Faster) Pickup? I also want to know if the front hubs, axles etc swap over from a First Gen Isuzu Bighorn appx 2.3 diesel to a First Gen Isuzu Bighorn 2.8 4JB1-T?

Cheers :D

Following on from this,

Are the power steering boxes the same between Isuzu Bighorn UBS55 and UBS69 ? What about the MU?

TIA :)

The rear diffs between mu's, ubs55 and ubs69 manuals and with disc brakes are all the same too?

All Mus have the same diff mounting but UCS55 has a disc handbrake and the mount to the diff housing is smaller than the UCS69 which has the drum handbrake (which works) You could swap the entire diff housing to get the better rear brakes

Thanks Geeves. The rear bearings of my 1990 bighorn start to getting worn and i looking for second hand complete axle shafts. I find a 92 mu and a 96 bighorn from the wreckers and both have disc brakes like my bighorn. Both will fit?

Short answer no they will not fit. Better to take the axles out and take them to your favorite mechanic who will be able to press the old bearing off and press new bearings on. Alternately the book says carefully cut the bearing most of the way through with a grinder cut off blade and give it a wack with a cold chisel. The bearings are cheap enough and all the second hand axles will have old bearings as well. Are they noisy or lots of play? They are a sealed bearing and should have a small amount of play.
