I have the rear seal gone in mine, sounds like the pinion bearings look like they are gone aswell... It is really annoying to have this problem as im looking at $550 to get the pinion rebuilt if i pull the centre out my self, which the wife is not happy about.

Is the rear diff the same to pull apart as a nissan patrol diff? Im taking it is a semi floating diff, so it is a matter of taking the brakes off and undoing the 4-5 bolts holding it it place, oull the axle's out then undo the centre bolts out remove the centre and get repaired, then put back in the opposiate to what i just said. Is that the correct method? What oil do i use?

Sounds about right.
Are you sure its the pinion bearing not an axle bearing?
Pinion bearing might be noisy due to the nut slipping so wrong preload. The outer pinion bearing con be done in place but there is an inner bearing as well which requires a complete strip down to get at

Thankyou, there is a fair bit of play in the pinion, you can hold the tail shaft and move it a fair bit at the pinion end.

Im going to take it down and get it looked at first, im going to pull it out to get the work done as they want $200 to remove and refit the centre. I could pull my nissan centre out in 30mins so i will save abit of miney pulling it out myself.

Might take a little longer than 30 min if the discs jam and remember its heavy but certainly not worth paying someone 200 to remove for you

That timing is if all removes easily. The centre cant weigh more then a patrol centre...

I still have bad dreams about changing mine to LSD. Laying under the car supporting the diff head on my chest as I got it out then thinking I could lift it into place by arms alone. Grabbed hold and pushed...........nothing happened. Had to get it back out from under the car roll it onto my chest then get back under the car while unable to breathe and arch my back to lift it the last inch. If you get it slightly off square it jams solid.
