Handbrake adjustment, whine and suspension noise

Postby nb422 » Sat Dec 27, 2014 8:33 pm

Hi guys, so i've just done a 2 inch body lift and need to adjust the handbrake i believe. It goes on fine and works but when releasing the handle it stays on partially (can pull the handbrake halfway out with no resistance) and i have to reach under the truck and give the part that splits the cable off to each caliper a pull to fully release it. Do I need to adjust this bit or is there a part further back i need to adjust?

And unrelated I have a noise in the front right hand side that is like a metallic tap noise, that I can hear and feel just forward of my accelerator foot when i hit any bumps while driving.. I have felt it for a couple of weeks now but it has only just started making the noise after sitting unused for 2 days while i installed the body lift (longest its sat in a while) Maybe related to the oil leaking from the steering box running onto something and ruining it?.

And lastly a whine that changes is pitch with the revs, also only noticed.. believe it is either turbo or a/c pump. Would this be related to my a/c pump seizing a few weeks ago at 100kph? It seized solid while engaged but was fine to freewheel so I just pulled the fuse and had it degassed..

Any help will be great.. Cheers

Yeah I had to completely redo the hand brake when I did my bod lift.
Start at the back and adjust the calipers, then move forwards to the cables. Before you tighten the cables slacken them off and make sure the all move freely. one stuck/sticking cable with screw with it and you'll never get it right

losen cables at the front, adjust at calipers them adjust the slack out of the cables

the knock, check around the body mount under your foot for cracks and check cross member under the sump

whine noise, the exhaust flap by turbo hits the inner gaurd, changing the flap position, just make sure nothing is hiiting to body

Cheers rob. I think the knock may be a broken engine mount to be honest as it shakes more than before after a 4wd trip

Hey does anyone know what left and right handbrake cables suit the mu 1992
Someone has let them sag and rubbed on inner rim and eventually
Rubbed through both sides now no handbrake
Frustrating as all cos only purchased it a few weeks back and had no idea this was
Happening
Cheers all

Take the old ones to an engineer to get new ones made as a copy or get second hand from www.4x4isuzu.com

Make sure the inners are free moving in the outers and the rubber boots are in good condition. Dont be afraid of using lots of kero to clean the cable then even more oil to get rid of the kero. Any resistance in this cable will mess up the rear brake adjustment. When you adjust the new cables set then so the cable holds the lever 1/2mm off the stop.

Hey everyone
I've sourced handbrake cables for the rear both sides
Pretty stoked $120 delivered from qld
Also
Has anyone had the experience of a really loud annoying
Whine on acceleration at (I guess)high revs
And whist de-acceleration in the cabin
Sound like either turbo(hell loud)
Or could it possibly be the gearbox
Thrust bearing etc
Cheers
