MU RMD Transmission filter

Postby madmax60 » Sun Apr 26, 2015 4:38 pm

The 1995 Isuzu MU 3 ltr diesel Rmd auto transmission.

I have undone all the bolts holding the transmission pan on, drained the fluid.
On the passengers side of the pan there is a about a 20mm pipe that appears solid that will restrict dropping the pan.

How do you remove the pipe...as I want to replace the transmission filter???.

I presume it does have a transmission fluid filter??

In case anyone is searching the same
The 20mm pipe is for the dipstick and unbolts from the bell housing .
The transmission sump drops out with about 800mm 20 dia pipe fixed to it being the dipstick tube.
The transmission filter is a
RYCO RTK50F for the 3 ltr DSL auto 1995 MU Isuzu.
I am using Nulon all vehicle fully synthetic transmission fluid.
and transfer case Nulon semi synthetic 70 -80 it took 2 ltrs.
This car was given to my son as his 1st car, what a pain the MU is to work on....much prefer my Jeep GC to work on.

I would of used atf in the transfer case as well. The book doesnt specify transfer case oil buty the manual version uses the same oil as the gearbox. Dont change it again though as Your gear oil is measured differently to the atf and not that different in real viscosity

hi guys any idea about repco having 3 different filters for this RMD transmission code? 95 isuzu mu 3.1td. apparently the RMD trans code is useless to them, pans seem the same, ill have to jump under and go for a hunt because they can't give me the definite kit.
also will be doing front driveshaft uni joint, which a mate reckins it's a mission??? not sure if he has actually done it but i've just done cambelt, pump etc again, surely a U/J isn't that bad... is it?

Book shows it as quite easy. Undo internal circlips tap with a hammer to release bearing cups whick pop out remove cross replace in reverse.
My experiance has been remove circlips smash with hammer for 30 minutes give up take driveshaft to mechanic

I was told there are only 2 possibilities and it will be obvious when you take it out. In any case it can be washed in kerosene and dryed thougherly
