96 wizard torsion bars

Postby stardog » Sun Oct 11, 2015 5:24 pm

I'm getting close to fitting my bulbar and winch on the wizard and thought about getting some new torsion bars to cope with the weight does anybody know what length these bars are as the ones on it seem to be a lot skinnier than my 94 mu torsion bars.

Measure the hight and adjust to match after fitting the bar. You might not need to change
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

My understanding is that you 96 Wizard and your 94 Mu should both have the same torsion bars (both UCS69).
The major differences between torsion bars on the Mu/Wizards came in the change from 2.8 (UCS55) to 3.1 (UCS69) powered vehicles.

The UCS55 had a shorter length and larger diameter torsion bar than the later UCS69.

The ride in a 3.1 Mu is noticably softer than a 2.8

Also, as above comments have suggested, see how you get on with just adjusting your torsion bars after fitting a winch. If you can attain the height you require (within the adjustment available) and the ride is still ok then no need to change.

The drivers side torsion bar bolt has been done up heaps more than the left side don't know who had done this in the past but its all wrong.
I am going to have to take them out and find the marks to install them correctly or reindex them hopefully it will workout ok.
