Get help fixing your Isuzu from other club members

2.8l gearbox

can you match a 3.1 l manual gearbox to a 2.8 engine or do i have to find a 2.8 one as are proving quite hard to find one?

Only problem is they have different outputs so either change driveshafts or tail shaft section
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

so if i used a 3.1 gearbox i change the diffs to and that would sort that out?

no need to change diffs. The rear driveshaft on the 2.8 has a spline into the gearbox. The driveshaft on the 3.1 has a flange similar to the diff end of the driveshaft and a spline in the front section.
If you swap the outputs on the gearbox or swap the driveshaft (easier option) then you are fine

sorry if i dont follow you but all i have todo is use the 3.1 driveshaft out of a mu and all will be well with the 3.1 gearbox does every thing line up reguarding the bell housing as i have herd storys that it wont?

not aware of issues. Some people have changed flywheel but that was for the bigger clutch

will have to make a new gearbox cross member aswell

This is manual to manual I believe

When I changed engines in the mu from 3.1 to 2.8 I used the 2.8 clutch and fly wheel that was on the donor engine no problems so far.
