AR5 transmission into a UBS69

Postby mrstrat » Thu May 11, 2017 11:09 am

Hi All,

I have a 1994 UBS69 Trooper/Jackaroo which I have removed the 3.1, and transplanted a mildly modified 4JB1T into.

The 4JB1T is pushing 345nm (derived torque) at the wheels up from 235 from the old 3.1, and i use the vehicle for towing a reasonably heavy caravan.

I just don't trust the MUA with this amount of torque while i'm towing my caravan, and as i cannot find anyone that has done what i do with the MUA, i really don't know how strong they are. I know from a few forums i found on google that the AR5 is known as a very strong box.

I am just seeing if anyone has replaced an MUA transmission from a 3.1 (4JG2) 1994 UBS69 trooper/Jackaroo, with an AR-5 form a 1998 - 2002 4JX1 trooper? IF so, what had to be changed for it to fit? Tailshaft, cross-members etc??

Regards.

Beyond selector and syncro issues and a few bearings the MUA is a very reliable box unless it gets water in it or the seal to the transfer case fails. Seen a lot of double horse floats behind standard ubs69s
I have no knowledge of the ar5

Thanks for the reply mate. I am a little concerned with reliability now that the engine is producing a lot more torque. The AR-5 was in the last of the troopers/Jackaroo with the 3.5 and 3 litre (4JX1). Since the diesel made about 333nm torque, and the AR5 handled this without issue, i'd like to change to that box. That way it should tow with reliability.

The MUA has been good so far though.
