General Questions about 1997 Isuzu Bighorn

Postby konsta21ntinos » Thu Aug 10, 2017 2:35 am

Hello everyone, i am new to this site , so please show some understanding.
Recently my uncle gave me his 1997 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1 DT Auto 2-Door and i have a few questions about it. It has 310000km and has seen some serious off-roading. The shock absorbers have been changed since 2002 and the new ones are adjustable. Also the radiator is changed with an aftermarket one.
First, do i have to reverse the car a few meters when im about to engage and disengage 4x4?
Second, recently i started noticing small screatching sounds coming i think from the rear of the car. These sounds stop when i press the brake. Also i hear louder screatching sounds when i reverse the car. Is there a problem?
Third, how can i turn the timing belt light off? The belt was recently changed before the light came on.

Sounds a nice car
In theory you should have shift on the fly in that model which should activate and release as you press the button on the dash. Your front hubs will have a dome shaped cover rather that a free wheel hub.If they have free wheels they are not standard for your model and we have to work out what other mods have been done. Correct activation is push the button the 4wd light will flash untill the diff catches up and the light goes steady. Deacitivation is the reverse of the same
Check yout rear brake shoes. Either work or a stone caught in them
Timeing belt lamp is a jumper on the back of the speedo or remove the bulb
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

The 4x4 is engaged and disengaged by a lever next to the auto selections.
