hubs not disengaging?

Postby 98Rodeo » Thu Dec 31, 2009 11:06 am

The other night had to back off the 'front lawn' which required 4x4 and trun out the driveway going backwards still onto the road.
While i was turining the front left wheel seemed to be stuck when close to full lock with right hand down going backwards.
i took the hubs out as soon as i got off the lawn and backed down the concrete and it still felt as tho it was in low range
couple of forward u turns and probelm gone
does the hub just not disengage properly in reverse or do i have a probolem?
any ideas?

They manual or auto? they may be just dry and need some grease to free it up a bit. When was the last time you pulled them off and greased them up?

If you have the diff loaded up the hubs won't release until the load has gone

It is common with 4wd if you dont use them often.
I'd would not worry to much about it but a bit of grease wouldnt hert.

I had the same problem once, got stuck in a sandpit in 2wd, had to engage 4wd (manual) and floored it to get out up a concrete step onto flat ground. left wheel went up first then the second. it took about 10-15 back and forwards to get the hubs released. (and they had plenty of grease) just try not to drive on sealed surface with 4wd engaged, and then try not to turn on it ;)

its all part of 4wding :D

1. Great landing
2. First round is on me
3. I'll take the ugly one.
