front stub axles ? I need a new set ..

Postby Elysian » Sun Jan 03, 2010 11:36 pm

Hi all,

Been gone for a long time , but kind of back now in Sydney for a bit ..

Anyway , I am after some new stub axles for my MU .. but I'm not sure what I need to look for , as I have the 2.8 engine model MU, but I have the 3.1 model diffs/axles/etc from Fly3r's MU ..

What's gone is the front wheel bearings have gone, and in the process, have scored a nice ridge into the stub axles, so .. can I use parts from a Rodeo (TF , silimar/same year) or Jackaroo bits ( same/similar year) ?

plus, what is the rough cost range for new/replacemnet stub axles ?

OK, been looking around for the new stub axles ... the cheapest I have been quoted is $1300 .. each !! plus they have said that the stub axles may not be the right ones , if so.. I'm stuck with them / non returnable because they are a special order / import part .. ( being genuine Isuzu parts thru Holden ..)

I may need to look around some wreckers and find some used ones ...

If any of you guys know of any part numbers and/or eqivilent parts from a Rodeo / Jackaroo / Wizard / etc .. I'd be most thankful , and will see what the prices are on those .. hopefully less that $1300 each ..

How bad is the damage? Is it only where the inner bearing race seats?
Maybe possible to get the axle metalsprayed or sleeved and remachined?
I'm assuming that only one side and probably only one bearing as gone?

small update ...

I went to a wrecker to get some 2nd hand stub axles... pulled them off the Rodeo ( 91 model 4x4) to have a look to see if they matched.. yeap .. all good I think.. take them to the counter and the guy says $250 ( for both) , then says that he has *new* ones .. old customer order that fell through, $250 each as he's had them for a few years and no ones asked for them ... I quickly hand the guy a handful of $50 notes ... then my father tells the guy that the axles he just sold us are about $1300 each from Holden .. the guy had to sit down .. lol
