Are mus supposed have lock nuts for the tie rods? My dosen't

Yes they should otherwise they could undo and fall apart

They should be castle nuts and split pin. I have seen nylocks on other cars but a castle cant come undone
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
