96 bighorn ABS issue

Hi guys,
96 diesel auto bighorn.
ABS lights sometimes on driving. (Lights and stays on until engine shutdown).
Codes can be read by ABS light as per manual but...
How old are the codes? I want to delete the stored codes so I can tell that the error codes are today's errors. (I dont want to be mislead by chasing a 5yr old error).
The book says
1/ go into diagnostic mode.
2/ bounce the brake pedal 6 times within first 3 sec.
3/ All done !!!

I can't get it to do it.
I have tried :-
turn on ign, wait 1/2 sec and 6 brake.
turn on ign, wait till "1" of diag mode indication lights then 6 bounces.

I have done these several times with no success.
Any other ideas?

The book also says that pressing the brake (or a few other things) makes the controller exit diagnostics mode.

PS codes are 32, 61 and 14.

It looks like the 98onwards book has incorrect info for 96 bighorn ABS. Found this one which *might* be right.
