Tyre Pressures For Road Use

Postby dasnoboarder » Thu Jan 14, 2010 3:41 pm

Hey guys,

Got my new tyres on, all certified,

Wondering what type of pressures people are using with their 33x12.5 mud terrains.

I've got GT Radial M/T's, with tubes.

I'm talking about for road use, unloaded.

Any rules of thumb or approximate values to start would be helpful.

Cheers,
Andy!

What size rims are they on. It does make a difference. I would try 30 and take it on a 10km trip If the sidewalls get warm you could take it up to 32. I run 32 in my 32x11.5s on 8 inch rims and get very even wear. If you have 10 inch rims you could try up to 35.
Remember off road 10 is a good place to start and reduce from there in the goo

Thanks Alan,

They're on 15x8 rims.

Down to 10psi you reckon? I have been running my 31" tubeless A/T's at 20 as soon as we get offroad.
I guess those tubes were worth the money :D

What's the lowest pressure I should go with this set-up?
Went for the 8" rims to get the tyre to hold the bead (more than 10" rims would), without going with beadlocks.

Going below 10 requires you to be gentle on the throttle. This is the point where you can spin tyres on the rim which on tubes will wipe the valve off. Most of the time I run 15 off road but will lower to 10 if the conditions require it less if needed. Ive seen big tyres that lift the edges of the tread off the road at 15 and still look hard at 4 but you need a good v8 to turn them (37x15x15)
