URGENT - MU transfer case question

Postby Tbone » Sat Jan 16, 2010 10:08 am

Hi guys, i've got a stripped filler bolt hole thread in the transfer case on my 94 MU (attached to 3.1 4JG2 turbo) and was wondering if this is the same as i've got (just bolt it in)? would be easier to buy and fit this than trying to get mine welded and rethreaded (its a big hole too 24mm i think) as i'd have to take it off anyway, what do you think?? (p.s. closes in 6 hours.....!)

Probably the same. How did you ever strip that bolt ????????????
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

god knows! that was my first thought too! it was like that when i bought it, i went to change the fluids and then the bolt didn't want to stay in :( the locktite is wearing off so this looks like a good opportunity to get it sorted (it leaks a little now too, not to keen to risk driving through any water until its sealed)

i spoke to quite a few places about helicoils but apparently its way to big for the common sizes, they would charge heaps because they would need to buy the tool first, i thought about a smaller hole but that would probably cost a bit to get an insert put in anyway (weld/drill/tap/fit insert). figured this could be perfect, assuming it fits and doesn't go up in price much
