The 3.1MU should be 4.3 and the 2.8 should be 4.555

Easy way to tel is jack up one wheel and count the number of driveshaft rotations to one wheel rotation. Divide the answer by 2 and get the above number.

Dont know why but the 2.8 bighorn got the 4.3 diff unless it had the factory wide body kit which came with 31 inch wheels instead of the normal 29s. this is still fine even with 32s

Hello, I have a question. I have a coverted US Petro to a 4JGT Turbo Diesel. I have a chance to buy a 96 Limited Isuzu Trooper with an Automatict Transmission for parts. Are the 4X4 gears the same in both units. Right now I am using all BigHorn Gears from the 4X4 to the rear end.

If the 96 is a diesel then it will pay to use them.
If it is a V6 petrol then there is no point.
But it is always good to have spare parts if you have room.

Count the teeth on the diff. 93 bighorn could have either so could the 91 mu

2.8 factory manual mu has 4.5 diffs, most 3.1 bighorns have 4.3 as the have more power so can run taller gearing

not all though My 94 bighorn is factory 4.5s It was an added bonus but wish I had checked for the possibility before putting my locked 4.3 in the back. I could look up the id plate codes but so often diffs have been changed
