WEBSITE RELOCATION AND CHANGES 2015

Hi All,

By the time you read this our site is on a new server....it should be faster and more reliable, not that it was to bad before.

I have noticed that we have about 3GB of pictures sitting on the server from this forum, I will need to make some changes to posting options and also may need to remove some files....unfortunately we just don't get enough donations to keep all this stuff going.

I am open to suggestions if you have any.

Kindest Regards

Francesco

I had some trouble logging in over the last couple of days...all seems ok now though.

Would deleting members that say joined more than 3 or 4 years ago and haven't posted or visited lately help?
I'm willing to plod away in the background and do some of this...

Why is your hosting so much? I pay like 9 bucks a month and get unlimited traffic and unlimited space :/ 3 gigs is nothing...

Francesco, would it be possible to get a 7zip archive of the pictures before you purge them?
I know there are some technical threads on here where the pictures are very useful.

There is also a lot of rubbish ie things that dont mater any more. The purging is one post at a time.
Im talking to Francesco about the way to sort this but it is a long process and help might get called for at some point.
Also a good time to remind people about the donate button if you havnt donated in a while

Like all things you get what you pay for, this site is now on fast Australian servers with daily backs, firewall, actual support team etc etc etc...

No real way to sort and remove photos from the server end or backend....needs to be done, post by post via the front end.

Clearing inactive users will have minimal effect on reducing space used, but its always nice to do a clean up

Thank you all for your support and assistance.

Regards

Francesco

I have found that most of the pics don't seem to have come through on the change.

This is a great source of information site on Isuzu 4x4s people should donate a few dollars to keep it going and preserving photos and how to fix things on a Isuzu.
If you have PayPal donate a few dollars every bit helps guys for this great site how many times I have been helped out here and has saved me heaps of money working on my mu.
I'm just about to donate a bit more myself so we can keep all the data.

Whos running all the management for the server itself? Like the back end. I don't mind helping with that, or having a look and seeing where useful changes can be made. IE: backups can be scripted so you aren't paying for them. SQL mirroring to an offsite backup

This might be a costly exercise, but how hard would it be to setup a system where any size photo could be uploaded and it gets automatically resized to a specific size setup by the admin and also, more importantly it strips all unneeded information such as gps location (geo data), date taken etc. This is what trademe and most of the bigger sites do.

Im also on spiritburner.com and they have just implemented this but at a cost. They run a subscription to get into some forums so have a reliable source of income unlike here which relies on donations which only come to a fraction of the costs.

better late than never how about having a target amount for donations each month and people can see how close this site is to reaching the target each month.
