Wayne's rigs of yesteryear

Postby wbski007 » Wed Mar 10, 2010 9:03 am

Just thought you all would like to see some of the vehicles I had over the years, so here goes, wish I had some of um today.
believe me there were plenty more but these are some of my favortes, enjoy um, I sure did.
The pick up I made started out as a 1954 B model Mack tractor, I cut it down and put it on a 84 Chevy 1 ton chassis with a 6.2 diesel, I had the only B model Mack P/UP around, it turned a lot of heads

Amazing vehicles. I guessing the nomad wasnt a top chop afterwards. Its a pity because those nomads are worth a fortune these days. Almost as much as the coupes

I had two Nomads, the first was a 55 and the second was the 57 you see here, after I rolled it I took out the 327 that I had just put in 1 week before and parted out the rest, it was pretty banged up but here's the rest of the story, I was alone when I rolled her thank God I didn't have the wife and kids with me, I hit a piece of metal on the road at 70MPH and that's when all hell broke loose, don't remember much after that but I landed up rite on the shoulder of the road and it was still running, I drove it to the next exit and called my buddie and he came with the trailer you see it on and we brought it home, what a day that was.

Since it doesn't look like I'm boreing you guys, I'll post a few more, thanks for the complaments fella's, I don't get a chance to show the stuff that I've done over the years to much anymore, I had alot of fun building some of these, my biggest problem is I can't just drive any old thing, it has to be different from the what others have, even to this day as you can see by my Rodeo.

Dont you wish you still had that woody. One trip to ebay will tell you what it might sell for today. Youd be able to buy clubisuzu and still have enough change to buy another house.

Alan, I wish I had all of back but the 51 woody wagon was a beauty, in 1960 it was only 9 tears old and it was a low milage car when I bought it, all wood on the inside also, with real leather seats, it wasn't a fast car as it only had a flathead V8 but it did have a 3 speed on the colum with OD so it did cruise fairley well once you got her going, it was a very heavy car, those were the days, I was stationed in Texas then and they had no speed limits once you got out of town, I'd be cruising at about 75 in the woody thinking I was going pretty fast and the some Texan would fly by me in a big Lincoln like I was standing still so I sold the woody and bought a 50 oldsmobile and hopped it up a little so I could cruise at 100 like the big guys, roads out there in Texas were straight as an arrow and the went for hundreds of miles, so you could get away with 100 or better, funny after you do 100 for awhile on the open plains it feels like your only doing 40, but every once in a while you would still get one of DAMMED Texans pass you with something bigger and faster, what fun we had.

that'syes I have seen them, Muzila and I think their cool, I like the old looks too, the new space age stuff is for the birds, the cars and trucks of the 40's 50's and 60's had a great look to them, they had stile, not today tho, back in the 50's when I grew up if you seen a Ford, you new it was a ford, today you see a new Ford and it looks like all the other crap going up and down the road. I started driving trucks in 63 when I got out of the service, here's a few photos of a couple of my trucks when I had my own fuel oil hauling Co. first one was a 1968 Kenworth day cab with a 335 Cummins and a 10 speed road ranger trans, then I traded it in on a 1973 Peterbuilt sleeper cab with a 1693T cat motor with a 13 speed road ranger, the year was 1977, sold the Pete in 1983 and went to work for a over the road Co and retired in 2005

hide it behind some hay bales at the back of the barn and she wont see it. When she does you will be able to honestly say its been there for years

Isn't it a small world frontier, I had a 73 FJ55 landcruiser wagon and put a 327 Chevy in it, did you know the land cruiser 3 speed trans fit the Chevy bellhousing all but for one bolt, Toyota used the Chevy stick trans as a guide when they made their's, I was suprized that the Toyo trans and transfer case held up to the 327 as I showed it no mercey, but it did, yes the good times are gone, but you know what, I'm still having fun.

Was the Toyota six petrol a copy of a Chev six or another Yank motor?

In USA the FJ40 was sold with a factory 350 Apparently a nice rig although purists wont have anything except the 4.0 6 cylinder. Over here its cheaper to fit some form of 350 than recon the toyota motor. And you get more power and better economy. Current fashion is LT1 or LS1.

Yes I would say that Toyota got alot of their ideas for the big six they had in the Land Cruisers from the chevrolet 6 cyl, the FJ55 wagon I owned had the orignail 6 cyl motor and it had a closely resembeled the Chevy 6, it was a good motor, but when I found out the Toyota trans would bolt up to a Chevy small block, it was by by 6 and hello 8, my son and I both had FJ40's at the same time, but kept the orignail 6's in them as they both ran well, they were lighter than the FJ55 wagons so there was no need to up grade to the Chevy V8. The only thing wrong with the Toyota's was they rotted all to hell fast, poor steel I guess, other than that they had a tough drive train and would go anywhere, I liked them alot, prices for the early ones have gone thru the roof around here, a 73 like I had goes for around $8,000 and higher now.
