nice wagon. Unusual to have that motor in a 1990. Everywhere else they changed to the 4jb1t in 1987. Do you have rear disk or drum brakes?

Currently there are only 2 type of motor on Indonesia's trooper. There are C223 2.2 Diesel N/A and 4ZD1 gasoline..
My current engine itself its not an original engine of my wagon. I swaped it about 10 years ago because my old engine is broke down.
And yes it has front 8 bolt/ rear 10 bolt rear drum brakes. Kinda old setup isn't it?

If i was not mistaken, this setup is used abroad up until 1986/87.
Indonesia use front 8 bolt single wishbone/ 10 bolt rear narrow axle up until 1987, then changed to front 8 bolt double wishbone/10 bolt rear wide axle from 1988 to 1994, which is the last production of trooper here.

But my swapping is not usually what my friends do. Few of them swapped with 2.8 4JB1TC or even bigger 3.1 4JG2TC. And a very rare of them even swapped to 3.0 1KZ usually found on TLC Prado, complete with its gearbox and front/rear diffs.

This differencies is because it's hard to find a replacement engine in here. Most of us have to buy the engine from singapore or malaysia. And even more, it's hard (and expansive)to make it legal!!

Thanks Captcol..

All Indonesian troopers are using this shape.. We never have nex gen troopers with rounder shape like japan's isuzu bighorn or etc.. even until '94 which is the last year trooper produced in here.

Makes a bit of sense now. I couldnt figure out why it had the facelift grill but old mechanicals. The c223 is a good engine but the non turbo version in a lwb truck would of been slow.
The 1kz swap would be an interesting project. That is a good engine but its fully computer controlled so would be an electronics nightmare for a swap

Hi geeves,
That's right about c223's lack of power. Thats why many of my friend swapped the C223 to 4JB1TC (commonly) and a few with C223T or 4JG2TC.
Or some people makes another way out by adding turbo and intercooler to the C223.

About the 1KZ swap, currently there is 1 of my friend on my city that do this to his trooper. He use all electronic (ECU, wiring, etc.) that came with the engine. But for the tranny, he use the manual version. The downside of this swap, especially the tranny, he have to lower the crossmember that hold the tranny. This maki his vehicle doesn't suitable for offroading, because of low ground clearance.

Hi Danni, welcome to the club, just when I thought I seen them all I get surprized to see yet another different type of Isuzu, its funny to me to see a Chevy emblem on a trooper, very nice looking rig you have there, I like the boxey ones too, they do make turbos for the 2.2's but I think they're hard to find, I wonder if one like is on my 2.5 could somehow be fitted to the 2.2, here in the states the 86 thru 88 troopers came with a turbo charged 2.2.
I live in my own little world, but its OK they know me here.
Happy Trails, Wayne

Hi wbski007, thanks for your welcome..

Yes , trooper in indonesia was sold under the badge of chey, although it still use an isuzu engine..

Some people here who add a turbo to their 2.2 usually use a TD-04 turbo. If i wasn't mistaken, this turbo usually used in Mitsubishi L200 Strada 2.8, make a custom header, and restrict the boost up to 0,5 bar for use on standard C223 N/A. It's lightboost, but enough to extract more power from the underpowered motor, without stressing it too much. A larger boost often ends with a broken camshaft (since C223 N/A here comes with timing gear) or blown gasket). This setup has proven for few years, with a little broke down issue. (please remember that the engine that will be used for turbo add-on has to be a good engine, preferable if everything is overhauled before).

Regrads,
Danni
