Damo's MU

Postby Skiffy » Mon Apr 12, 2010 9:46 pm

Hey

1990 Isuzu MU, red, 2.8TD, new second hand bullbar, 31's ( needing new ones soon), Pioneer head unit and sub, pretty much standard elsewhere.

Sorry for the poor quality of pics.

Thanks

Damo

Enjoy your project seems like you will have to groom the mu to taste. Just drove my frontier/wizzard with a new 3.1 tdi - was a 320 v6 before

Hey mate

The 2.8td is a strong motor and i would love to see what the 3.1 is like.

The Sub and amp are in the back behind rear seats
the amp is on the back of the sub box
its all hardwired in and the wires are all under the carpet(except for the slack at the back so i can push it forward when the seats up)
got pics of the setup for you

Thanks

Same kind of setup as mine.

I've been wondering if I can make something to put the sub and amp elsewhere, leaving more room in the boot... But theres not too many options in the MU!

Does the Mu have the ceiling pod speakers at the rear?

Nope, factory it has two 4" in the dash, and two 6.5" in the sides behind the front seats.

Hey Damo/skiffy,
Welcome, nice to see another MU owner, doesn't adding a bull bar make the car look soooo much better.
I hope you have fun with it on the north shore and DI,...you might actually see me around Noosa and Tewantin as my parent live there I frequently visit them. If you see a blue MU with reflective blue tinting (only blue tint I've seen yet), thats me, be sure to give a beep and wave.

Cheers

Hey Pissy

Will I remember this but my dad drives it more than me at the moment (i'm on my l's ayy, 6 months)
yeah the bar makes it look tougher and you don't see many around with the full bullbar. all these nudge bars and such.
All you need to know to find my car is a red MU with about 6 different shades of red, adds character :) Theres a few of these trucks around Noosa but none like mine. :P
oh yeah by the way, does anyone have a problem where the exhaust hits on the body when the revs drop below idle?? its really annoying but good to scare people who don't know about it

Thanks

Hey dasnoboarder

could it be possible to put the sub and amp up on the wheel arch??
or in the footwell for back seats?

Cheers

check all the rubber mounts on the exhaust. Some will have come off. I have the same problem but in my case the pipe is bent after backing into a bank. It wont get fixed till the pipe rots out
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Hey geeves

I had checked all the rubber mounts, they seem fine
so the pipe is probably bent. might get it bent back.

thanks

Hmmm a custom sub box mounted to one of the wheel arches could be an idea to save space.
Possibly a 10" sub on the arch, and the amp hidden away somewhere...
I've got a fire extinguisher mounted on one of my arches at the moment.

If I was to make the MU a permanent 2-seater, putting a sub and amp in the rear footwell and having a false floor setup would be a sweet solution. I find 4wding in the MU with 4 people isn't the best as the rear windows can't be opened, and visibility isn't the best from back there. At the moment I use the rear seats every now and then though...

Dasnoboarder

glad to help. Yeah i agree with converting to a 2 seater because its a real pain to get in and out of the back ayy
but i think ill keep the back seats so i can put my mates through that pain

Cheers

i have managed to install 2 small amps one under each seat to power my sub and the 4 speakers...sounds crystal.....love it..looking in the car you could never tell there is a stereo but crank it up and you will be shocked... all wires are hidden so it looks very neat. 10" sub in a small box in the rear.
Yeah tar thanks that'll be great..!
