Big river rd just out of refton...Going there again over the coming long week end... Can go in from either end but we usually go up river/creek direction..

Great, been there once before & stayed at the hut for two nights while we did some tramping around that area. Great place with the old mining & all.

No theres only one road in ... i ment the track where we have to winch can be done from either end off big river road.....
Also from there you can do the track down to the chinese open mine tailings...theres a hut in there too... some call the track( chinamans track..)
I want to find out where the track people call ( copper mine track ) or something like that....

Oh and nick is the 2nd alt you run out of a subaru also... If so which wires go where.....as in the S L Ign....on the back of the alt..

hmm, well i didn't go off the main track much, so i will have to go back to reefton and do some more exploring there.
Alternator; my 2nd alternator is actually off an old Ford, which is a Mitsubishi alternator.
My alternator had 3 wires on it; the main thick wire that goes to the battery, then two smaller wires (can't remember what the symbols on those wires were, but probably S and L). I just went out to have a look at the alternator, but there's too much stuff in the way to see the wires.
One wire goes to the battery to sense what voltage it is, and the other wire goes to the globe on the dash to excite the electromagnetic field to get the alternator started, and the large thick wire goes to the battery for charging.

So have chucked another doorhandle and window in the truck.. all water proof now ....
The drive over athurs pass wasnt to bad yesterday with no window..Had the heater on full bore and even then had to give the old girl a wee rest at the top of the Otira viaduct.. Was getting a wee bit hot...
All good though didnt boil it...
So weekend problems..
Fan hit radiator and put hole in it....Fixed with rad stop leak.
Punctured left front....fixed in the bush with rubber boot and tube..
smashed inner freewheeling hub ring...replaced with spare out off tool box
Smashed door handle into window broke both.. fixed at home...replace both.
So all good fun and some great tracks...will post some track pics later on.
