tonka the 93 troop

Postby rod31 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 5:43 am

hi folks have just joined up and wanted to say hello.

ive been driving 4x4s for a few years now and they have all been vauxhall fronteras up untill now. but i got my self a trooper a few weeks ago from a buddy. the truck used to be a race and rally rescue ambulance for my local off road club. with stretcher and medic gear in the back. since it was retired all the interior has been put back to stock. and all the medic stickers have been removed leaving a lot of scratches i think they must of used a wire brush to take them off  . but ive managed to buff the most of them out using t-cut and lots of wax. :)

hes a 1993 trooper 3.1 turbo diesel known as tonka
body has been lifted 1.5 inchs
torsion bars are wound up 2 inchs at the front and fitted +2 pro comp es9000 shocks
the rear is awaiting a set of +2 spring spacers so that i can get the +2 shocks fitted
the tyres are 33x12.50 on 15in wide offset rims.
it has a custom front bumper with winch mounts for a south down removable winch and the front crossmember has been totaly rebuilt.
this list could go on for days . but heres a few pics for now.

nice wagon, looks like its the business, I thought about buffing the scratches out of mine then I went for a bush trip and praised who ever that I hadn't bothered with the buffing ...

Those are not typical rust locations. Do you salt the roads over there?
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

yes the roads get salted in the winter months. and the truck spent all its life in a small town called bangor which is right on the cost line so lots of sea salt in the air. also spent its last few years as a race and rally rescue truck so was always coverd in mud and left parked up wittout being washed poor thing never stood a chance against the rust worm  . but its all sorted now :D .

no mate just took it for its annual test [mot]. and over here the inspectors almost push the cars to breaking point. it can be hard to watch your pride n joy getting bounced and battered about on the rolling roads :( no matter what age the car/truck is it must perform as a factroy fresh car would. also all mods get the once over. as for the crossmember it got put to the test just the other week when i had to pull my pals 7.5 ton horse lorry which was loaded with 4 horses out of the mud after it lost traction on a steep hill. was abit scarey but at least now i know the weilding is up to the job lol :D
