Isuzu mu - winch, bulbar, lifted, MUDs

hey Guys. I have had this bad boy for just over a month now tinkering with it in the shed. Thought i would share it with you all.


Suspension: NOW HAS 30mm HD dobinson leafs and upgraded HD torision bars.

Body Lift: 2 inch body lift - Has now been approved and mod plated for QLD

Tyres/Wheels:A set of BFG KM2 32 x 11.5 x 15. i love them!

Traction Aids: LSD rear. Front Aussie LOKKA. Reduction gearing is about to be installed.

Bullbar: Toyota SR5 bullbar Modified to fit the MU, 2 inch lift and 12000 lb winch. Air port on bullbar for easy access.

Spot lights and Lighting: HID spotties on the front. 2 10" LED light bars.

Communications/GPS: GME TX3100, GME antenna.

Dual Batteries: Not at the moment. Have run wire to back of care for the dual battery while camping. (to be mounted under false floor).

Engine: 2.8 TD manual. EGR have been removed and Go fast bits boost control. running 13PSI. Not really any massive plans for it, 180K’s.

Exhaust: 2.5" full mandrel bent system.

Sound system: Pioneer rear speakers, HERTZ front speakers and a JVC Bluetooth headunit.

External: Custom Bullbar mount and winch bar. (nicely mounted behind the alloy bar), Custom roof racs to suit roof top tent.. 160 LPM compressor mounted under the bonnet. Set of gumtree special rhino rood racks.

Internal: Have just started on a false floor set up in the rear of my beloved MU.

Others: Ball joint flip. Remote central locking. The winch control box has been mounted up next to the fuse box. keeps it out of the weather!

Been reading the forum for a little while now. This is my second MU but my first ever post :) - So play nice :D

The MU after hitting a couple local tracks.
Today i ordered a front lokka for it :D not that i needed it. Just cause i wanted it. Also have a snorkel on the way.
Pretty impressed with where it will go with how much effort!

Its also running a full 2.5 mandrel exhaust as of last week. Stoked with it.

Toyota bar is the perfect width. its the second time i have used one. Just have to modify the mounts.

Interior of the mu.
Got switches for the hid. Led light bars. Rear lights. Compressor. Winch isolator and power switch for when the dual batteries re installed. Also have a turbo timer. Bluetooth jvc headunit and a gme UHF radio.
Ignore the torch under the switches haha

Day out at city view 4wd park. I had the lokka installed in the front diff in time for the day out!

Looks like your in for a dry summer.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

We have just had our warmest winter on record or something! Barely put a jumper on haha

tonights predicted temperature in Masterton which is about 80km from here is -2C Weve also had one of our warmest winters Were getting 4 tonight in Wellington but at least we have 3 meters of snow on our favourite skifield

The truck is going to the shop for 3 -1 reduction gearing. First thing i am paying someone to do on the truck. The rest has been done myself.

How did you get those roof racks attached to the roof? Did you drill and pop rivet them in? I'm looking at some different options and your set up seems the most likely I would like to reproduce. As we do a bit of hunting the animal can be placed on the roof since we all lack space in the back of our MUs :!:

nice one Rob !! its good to have the rack like topgun has to chuck the bunnies and hares on top off , I'm guessing you're 'wrapping' the boars around your spare wheel??

yea boars and deer, have a roof rack aswell but after dragging it over the bonnet and up the windscreen then onto the roof rack, spare wheel seems much easier haha

Yeah jadg100 they are a set of rhino roof racks I got off gumtree for 50 bucks. They work a treat. Drilled and pop riveted to the top. Each hole has been sealed with primer and siliconed. The rack on top is a home built rack. Built to suit the size of a roof top tent in the future.
