A 1995 3.1 on Safari

Postby Kano383 » Fri Sep 06, 2013 7:17 pm

My name is Philip and I've been living in Africa for 20 years and some. During hunting season (January to June in my area), I spend most of my time in the bush, and my cars rarely see any asphalt. Closest "town" is 200 km away from camp, nearest "road" 300 kms. This sorts out unsuitable vehicles pretty quick!

I recently bough a 1995 3.1 Trooper/Bighorn (I prefer the Trooper moniker) as my personal ride. As strongly built as a Toyota 80, actually more leg room in the rear, and a third of the costs. A no-brainer... The only thing is that not many people are aware of the Isuzu's sturdiness and qualities.

Suspension: To be lifted 50mm, looking for Grand Cherokee springs
Body Lift: 50mm on Nylon pucks
Tyres/Wheels: Toyo Open Country MT, 235/85
Bullbar: self-made winch bumper
Spot lights and Lighting: Will come...
Dual Batteries: with marine selector switch
Engine: 4JG2
External: roof rack, winch from a Toyota, rifle hooks, hi-lift points, rear bumper/tow bar, tow hitch, more to come
Internal: 220V inverter power supply, more in the works

On the day of arrival:

As it looks now, works are still ongoing:

Am I reading this right??
You have to drive to town then another 100km to get to a road
The Aussi Jackeroo which is also the same truck had an option of a long range fuel tank giving an extra 100 litres. Might be worth searching ebay for one

"Town" is a grand name, but there is a bank and fuel there, and yes, it's another 100 km before you hit the asphalt...

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know there were factory long range tanks, and was looking on how to go about it (got 140 lts on the 130" Landy). I'll search to see how they're made and will fabricate one. Costs of shipping anything this big all the way here would be prohibitive...

I vaguely remember a thread on fitting a duel tank to a mu using the tank from a rodeo ute. I wonder if something similar would work
